The Internet is about expressing one's opinion or point of view. On your web site, you can set up surveys and polls to be taken about topic or a current event. There are companies that will pay for enhancement on your site. Much like when you signed up for Google, you'll need to create an account with them and pick out the surveys and polls you want to add to your site. Most of the companies that pay for you to do with use the CPM model.
15. Selling or Renting Internal Pages
Another option is selling or renting your inside pages as this has become trendy because of Million Dollar Wiki. Like anything else on the Net, this concept has been around awhile. How this works is that these sites allow for a single recurring fee, web site owners to rent internal pages on the domain. In these cases, they use Pagerak or high traffic so that people can freely use these pages for equal opportunities.
16. Highlighted Posts from Sponsors
This is an idea that has not really caught on. It is thought that maybe Techmeme introduced the idea. They are a technical news group specializing in presentation of editorial posts on the left column, but introduced the innovation of the sidebar where they have a section titled "Techmeme Sponsor Posts."
Here there are sections of the posts where the advertisers, once the traffic touches upon them, highlight the ad and noting that post as high traffic. These spots are expensive at $5000 per ad but it seems to work because they have at least 6 sponsors at a time.
17. Donations
It seems that early on in the evolution of the Internet many people were advertising themselves as charity cases. At least they were honest in the sense they knew they would work for beer. There are many sites that offer a free service but give the option of making a donation as a means to run the site. This button can be another way of making money especially if your product has a limited market but rich in valuable information.
This idea appeared a while ago with the Buy Me a Beer plug-in. Like many plug-ins, this allows the user to create a custom message inlaid within the article so viewers know that the writer needs beer or better yet coffee.
18. In-text Adverting
There are many networks that promoter In-text adverting like Kontera and Vibrant Media. These sites will situate sponsored links within your text. The way you can tell they are on a web site is the way in which they are displayed with a double underline. All the viewer has to do is position the curser over the link, which allows the ad to pop into view. Once the viewer clicks on the ad, the web site owner will profit.
It is interesting that a lot of people make good money utilizing this technique but still others don't like its invasive nature and don't use it at all. You will find that many mainstream web sites done by larger conglomerates do not use this technique either.
19. Pop-ups and Pop-unders
Everyone knows about Pop-ups and either he or she love them or hate them. Still it might be a good idea to experiment with the idea of using them on your web site to make extra money. It depends on how you feel about them.
Well, word of warning because they are still known to be more annoying than not and if you are serious about building your traffic, it's a good idea to stay away from them. I mean, keep in mind the lengths people go to avoid them with pop-up blockers.
20. Audio Ads
Audio ads are taking off as well and referred to pay per play or PPP. This tool was presented by Net Audio Ads. When you stop to think about it, the idea is a thing of beauty as more and more web sites become media interactive. The idea to play a short audio ad of about 5 seconds anytime a visitor is on your site really furthers the interaction but also makes them stop and listen. They can't pause the ad and this increases the conversion rate as unique visitors also increase traffic.
This tool is still in the testing phase but some site owners' results consist of CPM rates of $4 to a $6. Once again it is important to weigh the benefit of this tool with how invasive you want your ads to be categorized as especially when building a regular clientele. It is really a personal decision but one not taken lightly.
21. Selling the Website
This is the last option many owners do not even consider but still could be your last resource and the greatest one of all on this list. Really the web site itself has so much potential to increase regular cash flow in just a short span of time.
It seems the trend now that there are buyers and sellers of web sites to be found at market places or online forums. It is important to understand the marketability of a web site and therefore its value to both parties. This is usually decided by monthly revenue but also include other determinants like the expectations of the seller, on the quality of the site, on the niche and other factors. These figured out by using a multiplier anywhere from 5 to 30 and so on.
Much like the real estate industry, many owners use the marketplace to not only buy and sell but to also trade and flip web sites. They sometimes start from scratch but also "remodel" sites in order to increase traffic flow and therefore profitability for the new owner.
22. Selling an Ebook
Many writers will tell you that this is a tried and true method of making money on the Web but it is all about promotion of ebooks or other manners of publishing but this is also an area that is quick to build income.
23. Selling a Hardcover Book
While ebooks are all the rage right now, many writers of fiction and non-fiction use the Internet to sell their print books. It is as simple as printing a web site on the book jacket but so many of them turn into literary celebrities because of their following but also because their daily blogs and forums.
It is interesting to see how this method works well for authors already established pre-Internet but also how it works about writers who have gained a following because of the e-commerce they create for themselves.
24. Selling Templates Themes
It only makes sense that after years of some web sites being in existence and as new sites gain traffic that someone would figure out a way to profit on web site templates and themes. This is method is exploding.
Of course there will be mainstream providers like TemplateMonster, but also there are independent web designers that work for themselves and their creations.
25. Offering Consulting and Related Services
This is a fast growing segment of the online business world but it is dependent on the niche market in which you are focused on capturing. It may be highly competitive or barely discovered. What will help is exposing your portfolio to the masses especially if you have a blog or you're a writer, consultant and freelance. If they see your work, they will have a better idea of your product and service.
26. Creating an Email List or Newsletter
Out of all the indirect methods discussed here perhaps email lists and newsletters have the most clout within the marketing scheme and moneymaking realm. This is mainly due to the amount of conversion rates and the effective means in which they catch people's attention and need for expressing opinions. This can be challenging but effectively used as leverage especially if you have a high traffic site. This too can create more subscribers.
27. Mentoring programs
Teaching and creating a knowledge base is very important but also profitable. It is interesting that people want to pay for not just information but also knowledge. Actually education is a key industry that has benefited from the Internet and e-services that they are allowed to promote. The online education market has changed how students perceive school and actually go to school.
It makes sense to have a mentor program within the web site especially if you are in a niche market. This can be highly profitable but also rewarding in the sense that you are helping others. In this regard, it is also a form of expression and interaction with people you may never meet face to face.
28. Creating a conference around the website
If your site is popular within your defined market place and you are seen as an important member of the online community, you can also have conferences plugged into the site. This really is contingent on the size of the traffic to the site, you must be careful to limit the invitations because something like this could draw thousands of people. It has the potential to be enormous with sponsors and the money making potential is grand. These trusted sites have been responsible for many conferences that travel throughout the nation and worldwide as well. The Search Marketing Expo, manages these conferences with the tickets and passes costing thousands of dollars per attendant.
Are there anymore that you can think of?
